  1. Buffy the Vampire Slayer first began as a serious movie script.
  2. Sarah Michele Gellar was not the first pick for the role of Buffy. Supposedly, it was offered first to Katie Holmes. Then, Charisma Carpenter auditioned for the role of Buffy but got the role of Cordelia Chase instead.
  3. Buffy’s official theme song came about through a contest for local indie bands. The band Nerf Herder won.

  5. A whole new way of speaking was birthed called “Buffyspeak“.
  6. David Boreanaz, who plays Angel, and Sarah Gellar would play practical jokes on each other when they knew a love scene was coming up. They would eat particularly smelly food or pin their clothes shut to make it hard on each other.
  7. In season four, there is an episode where all the characters lose their voices. Because there was very little dialogue, it required much more effort on the part of the director. Josh Whedon says he did this to challenge himself because by then, he had gotten complacent with the series.

  10. The show is certainly known and loved for its dark humor and romance, but Josh Whedon wanted to scare you. Commenting on the creation of villains for the show, Whedon said, “I wanted guys who would remind people of what would they were scared of when they were children.” Eeekk!
